The first time they laid eyes on each other was in sixth grade. And even though Karl’s mom was the teacher, they both called her Mrs Johnson. Karl’s mother loved Kenzie and was so excited when Karl started taking her out, became best friends, then grew into high school sweethearts.
While taking a leisurely sunset walk along the beach (on the last vacation night in Hawaii), Karl dropped on his knees to ask Kenzie to be his forever girl. With the golden light dancing around the two, she said yes! And so began the countdown to their wedding day.
After meeting and hanging out with Kenzie and Karl for the first time at their engagement session in Astoria, I too could not wait for their wedding at the Red Barn Studios!!
As many of you know, the weather here in the Pacific Northwest is often temperamental, yet it was a gorgeous day in July for their wedding. The sun made a strong appearance for the day, followed by an occasional soft breeze, which we were all so very grateful for!!
I loved Kenzie’s dress from Allure Bridal! And believe it or not, it was the first one she tried on!! It was so elegant, and I especially liked the detailed lace! Another of my favorite elements of the day was Kenzie’s ring (a family heirloom that was Karl’s grandmother’s). I also loved the succulents that Kenzie incorporated as the decor. Her bridal bouquet was so beautiful!
Meegan, the maid of honor, was such an amazing help… from assisting me in the bridal details to making sure Karl never saw Kenzie before the first look!! Kenzie was so calm and the whole day flowed without a hitch- we were even able to stay right on schedule.
Karl’s sister officiated the ceremony underneath the tall maple trees, providing a welcomed cooling shade for all the guests. Each of them wrote their own vows to each other, heartfelt and true- bringing tears to a few of the sweet bridesmaid’s eyes.
Kenzie was a trooper during their “just married” portraits; wading through the thick wildflowers (and thistles). Both of them were so willing to do anything- which makes it all the more fun for me, too!
You two are such a kind and caring couple.
Kenzie and Karl- if I’m honest, I’m partly sad your wedding day is over! You two are such a kind and caring couple. And though we’ve only been together a couple of times, I know it’s true because your friends and family consistently told me the same thing.
I certainly hope you’re having a blast in Disneyland… and get a chance to enjoy seeing a peek of your wedding day while sunbathing at Huntington beach!!
Loveeee the lace detailing on the dress!! !
Kenzie!! You are a stunning bride!!
So in love with this ceremony site underneath the maple trees!! Not only was it gorgeous but refreshingly cool!
Yahooo!! Mr. and Mrs. Johnson!!
Loveeeee doing these “just married” portraits
Give me all the wildflowers please!!
I’ve seen cake cutting, but never a cake smash!! These two made it look so fun! 🙂
Karl’s mother made such a sweet and heartfelt toast, this is one of my favorite shots from the reception!
Big thank you to my second shooter, Amanda for this one!
