The wedding ceremony is over… you’re now man and wife! Family formals are out of the way, bridal party portraits are taken care of, cocktail hour has passed. The only things left on the schedule are the romantic bride and groom portraits (at the golden hour!) and your reception.
It’s time to parrrtayy!
Wedding receptions can be a blast, just like a big party! Yet just like a party, there can be slow stops in between. So, here are ten ideas to consider in keeping your reception moving, and your guests having the time of their life!
1. Photo booth
This is a fantastic way for guests to put on some props, get crazy, and give your reception a fun feel. There are many luxurious photo booth rental options, that can print the pictures right there and also email/text them!
2. Memories Table
A sweet way to remember the generations of marriage and the legacy that has been left. It could be filled with old love letters between the bride and grooms parents, photographs, their old cake topper.
3. Quizzes about the bride and groom
Have little quiz cards where guests can see how much they know about the bride and groom (i.e. First date).
4. Make your own food tables
This is a great place for guests to be creative with their food! Make your own ice cream sundae, s’mores, crepes, fruit parfait.
5. Dancing (of course!)
7. Outdoor games
Let the guests mingle and enjoy conversation over friendly competition such as bean bag toss and croquet!
8. Slideshow of pictures of the bride and groom
9. Photo Guest Book
Have a Polaroid camera as well as a basket full of rolls of film. Have the guest take their picture and then tape it in the guest book with a note. Even Grandma will have fun with this!
10. Hashtag Competition
Have guests take a picture at the wedding posting to their Instagram using the wedding hashtag. Toward the end of the reception, a winner is announced based on the most interaction. A prize can be awarded as you like (such as wedding decor, a picture of bride and groom, or even a gag gift)!
