When I arrived Monet Vineyards for Rebecca and Paulius engagement session fall was starting to peek through as the leaves that clustered around the Monet estate was just beginning to change colors. I had a chance to chat with Lisa the owner of Monet Vineyards beforehand and the beautiful estate was inspiration that she had gathered while growing up in Portugal. It was so special to shoot there!
Paulius looked dapper in his navy suit while Rebecca was glowing wearing a classy chiffon red wine dress. She also added in her Grandma’s fur shawl – it was a genuine touch of heritage and elegance. I love it when my couples incorporate meaningful pieces into their session!
If you met these two for the first time, it doesn’t take long to tell they simply love each other’s company. Paulius knows how to make Rebecca laugh…and Rebeca makes him beam with such joy!
There’s nothing like a good love story and Rebecca shared how they met, I think their proposal was just the sweetest!
Paulius and I first met during our second year of college at San Jose State. I was working on a paper for a political science class and I wanted to interview men about their time in Greek life. Through a sorority sister, I was able to meet and interview him.
At the end of the interview, he said: “Do you need my number for any follow-up questions?” At the time, I said no but I look back at this and find it really funny. We kept seeing each other at different Greek events and we slowly became friends over time. We were friends first but I think that helps make our relationship work so well. There’s no anyone else I would want to tell everything too.
One thing that worked out for us was that we were friends before anything romantic started. I think this gave us a chance to share things that you wouldn’t normally on a first or second date. It’s so hard for either of us not to share everything. Even during Christmas we have a hard time not sharing what we are getting the other person because we get so excited to see the other’s reaction.
Right before Paulius proposed he was so nervous it was cute! He had just started his MBA program at Portland State and he told me that he wanted to have a date night. He was worried that we wouldn’t have a lot of time together during his MBA so he really wanted to do something special. He asked me what I wanted to do and I told him I wanted to go ice skating.
He immediately said “No, we can’t do that. We should go to this park instead.” I asked him why does he want to go to this park and his response was to walk around because he thought it might be really pretty. When the day finally came around he said he had some homework he needed to do in the morning and we would go in the afternoon. He didn’t do his homework that morning. Instead, every time I checked on him, he was watching sports or YouTube.
He later told me he was so nervous he couldn’t focus on anything. Then during the car ride to the park, he made really funny comments like “don’t the trees look really pretty today?” I knew he was up to something and I had a feeling he was going to propose but I didn’t know for sure. Once we got to the park, we were walking around and when we came to a specific part, he knelt down and proposed.
I actually had picked out the ring about a year before the proposal! We always knew that marriage was the next step, so before we moved to Portland he asked me what kinds of rings I like, just in case. I sent him a list of a couple of ideas and he picked the one he liked off that list. The ring is from a great jeweler off Etsy!
Rebecca and Paulius, October seems so far off, but I’m counting down the days till your wedding at the Old School house where you two lovebirds will become husband and wife!!
Rebecca, you are glowing
Look at that bing!
